On the flip side
This year is the 100th anniversary of the theory of relativity and the 50th anniversary of his death.
Have you ever tried to formulate a thought or idea that might explain what the heck is going on in the world around you?
While I'm at it, I'll answer the question I asked last week. How can we know for sure that the universe is not infinite? The answer is - the night time. If the universe contained an infinite amount of mass, there would be an infinite number of stars, generating an infinite amount of light. If you walked outside at night, you'd be blinded instantly by the shear intensity of the starlight. I imagine life would never even have arisen due to the amount of radiation that would saturate every square inch of everything.
So, that begs the question; What determined the mass of the universe? Has there only been 1 big bang? It's happened once, so anything that has happened once is liable to happen again. What if space is infinite, even while the mass in the universe is not? There may be lots and lots of big bangs going off at unimaginable distances from us. Hmmm...
