Freepers Weep

From outgoing Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage:

"I'm disappointed that Iraq hasn't turned out better. And that we weren't able to move forward more meaningfully in the Middle East peace process."

Then, after a minute's pause, he adds a third regret: "The biggest regret is that we didn't stop 9/11. And then in the wake of 9/11, instead of redoubling what is our traditional export of hope and optimism we exported our fear and our anger. And presented a very intense and angry face to the world. I regret that a lot."
Isn't it interesting the things people say after the election is over? I expect more and more of the administration to start speaking truthfully about the war, now that they really have nothing to lose. I expect the freepers will toe their insane line anyway. The person that replaces Armitage will say the right things. He'll make the freepers feel good again by saying the things they want to hear. But then, he'll eventually leave, and write a book about what a mess it all was.

Time and again, the liberal position is proven right. Right about WMD's, right about Iraq's connection to 9/11, right about the lack of any credible threat. Now, the liberals have not only been proven right about the justifications for the war, but also in the way the administration initiated and conducted it.

Does it matter? Hell yes it does. It's about damn time that American's stop thinking that this country is the newest incarnation of Rome. We are part of the world community. We don't own it.

I think after 9/11, America wanted to say "Don't fuck with us" to the rest of the world in the strongest possible way. I admit that I felt that way after seeing the towers coming down. Our President needs to be above the rawest of emotional responses and consider carefully the concequences of what he does and says.

The sad thing is, most American's don't give a shit either way. Oh.. and in case you didn't know.. freepers is a term used to describe the pro-war types that frequent the Free Republic.
