I am nearly at a loss for words. The Supreme Court is just a bunch of cowards. They know that if they hear the case, the equal protection clause will force them to invalidate the Florida law.
Two quotes in that article stand out;
The law states, "No person eligible to adopt under this statute may adopt if that person is a homosexual." No other state categorically excludes gays or lesbians from adopting.
The law's sponsor, Florida Sen. Curtis Peterson, said at the time the purpose of the legislation was to send a message to gays and lesbians that "we're really tired of you. We wish you'd go back into the closet."
This on the heals of a Presidential campaign that hinged equally on two parts; War and "Family Values". The right wing nut jobs like to think that Chimp-in-Chief's re-election was a referendum on their version of family. How can these people claim any sort of moral high ground when they don't even realize that preventing gay people from adopting creates a whole string of disadvantages for their children?
Besides, who is the arbiter of who is gay? When a man goes to file an adoption application, is there a check box that says "are you gay?". Heck, just check no and be done with it. Does Florida employ adoption counselors with gaydar?
I'm sorry sir, your house is too well decorated. You must be a homo.
It's the whole icky-ness factor that seems to bother these assholes more than the needs and rights of other human beings. They are simply vile. There is no other word for it.
The only thing that gets me through the day is the belief that karma works. If there is any justice in this world, people like this Curtis Peterson asshole will have a child that turns out to be gay. It's easy to hate somebody when you don't know who they are. We've seemed to have proven that by the way American's are okay with bombing 100,000+ Iraqis to death. I don't know them, therefore I don't care. It's quite another thing when you have to look a family member square in the eye and tell them that they are less than human, because that's what Florida is saying.
I'm tempted to say that all gay people should move out of Florida. Let the entire state have bad hair, bad decor, bad theatre, bad food, and bad floral arrangements. Then again, I live in Texas, so I have no room to speak of sleeping with the enemy.
