Asshat Quote of the Day

Martin Luther King Jr. was a registered Republican. He was a member of the same political party that was created to abolish slavery, the same party that was instrumental in passing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 while the Democrats tried to filibuster it, and the same party that believes the way to defeat poverty is not to pay people to stay poor with entitlement programs. - Douglass "facts have a well known Liberal bias" Gibbs.

Doug is arguing that MLK was a Republican.. and continues his lying about the opposition to the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Martin Luther King III said, "It is disingenuous to imply that my father was a Republican. He never endorsed any presidential candidate, and there is certainly no evidence that he ever even voted for a Republican. It is even more outrageous to suggest that he would support the Republican Party of today, which has spent so much time and effort trying to suppress African-American votes in Florida and many other states."

....

MLK;

In a 1958 interview, he expressed his view that neither party was perfect, saying, "I don't think the Republican party is a party full of the almighty God nor is the Democratic party. They both have weaknesses ... And I'm not inextricably bound to either party."[31]

....

And the inevitably deleted comment;

Who was the Democrat that filibustered the Civil Rights Act? He set a record for the longest filibuster in history. What was his name, Doug? I know that you know it.

How come when you mention that Democrats tried to defeat the act, you never mention who they were?

Why do you not mention, ever, what those Democrats did after the Civil Rights Act passed? You know what they did. You're well aware of it. You never actually write down what it is they did.

His name was Strom Thurmond. Those Democrats were referred to as "Dixie-crats" due to their Southern heritage.

After the Civil Rights Act passed, they changed parties to Republican.

You know that is the truth. You will not admit to it. The truth means nothing to you.

And I'm feeling much better, thank you.

I haven't read Doug's blog in ages. It hasn't changed. Pick a random date from the archives and each entry is the same today. I have to give him credit for being consistent.. as a serial liar would be.

MLK;

Actually, the Negro has been betrayed by both the Republican and the Democratic party. The Democrats have betrayed him by capitulating to the whims and caprices of the Southern Dixiecrats. The Republicans have betrayed him by capitulating to the blatant hypocrisy of reactionary right wing northern Republicans. And this coalition of southern Dixiecrats and right wing reactionary northern Republicans defeats every bill and every move towards liberal legislation in the area of civil rights.[32]

Is there any bigger liar on the interwebz than Doug Gibbs?
