I don't know, I wasn't there, I am only going by the historical text. Of course, just because that kind of measure had to be used historically, it doesn't make it doctrinal. As far as how the Earth flooded, a shift in the magnetic poles is one theory presented, yes. But, God's way of doing it, though fun to try to figure out, is not the important part about that particular historical period. The evil of the world, and the presence of the Nephilim was the primary point of the story, and how God dealt with such a problem on Earth at that time.
