Team America

Just read a Rolling Stone article on an army platoon, stationed in Afghanistan, that went on a murdering rampage. They picked out innocent civilians, executed them, and planted weapons near them to justify the killings.

I'm not going to link it because I don't really recommend anybody read it, but it's currently on the front page of their web site if you really want.

Their first killing was a 15 year old boy. The RS article has pictures of the soldiers posing with the dead kid as one would a trophy deer. All smiles. The officers ignored it.. and it went on for quite a while.

I understand that sometimes soldiers get traumatized, but this platoon did it out of boredom.. lead by a charismatic sociopath who convinced them it would be a good thing to do.

That's all that wars do now. They get people killed, and nothing really changes.

I think I know why the MSM ignores all this shit. I'm getting to the point where I don't want to read any news anymore because of the shame and dishonor that is becoming the norm in this country. It's an every day thing.

Certainly most.. I guess.. I assume.. most of the soldiers conduct themselves as we would expect them to. But the killing of innocents just goes along with the killing of the "bad guys". You would just hope that they don't kill the innocents for sport.

It's been a long time, and I wonder how much longer it can go on. There are a lot of dead, and a lot of broken bodies, and nothing changes. It was all a waste.. all of it.. and I can see in my minds eye that 15 year old kid who didn't expect anything was happening, and what went through his mind as he saw the soldiers raise their rifles at him, right before the bullets went through his mind.

There's nothing we can do about it. The war protests are long over. There won't be any more. War is the new norm, and it's a roll of the dice who lives and who dies.

I really do think the morals of this nation are in an exceptionally steep decline. It'll be interesting to see what the country is like when the kids that were born in 1980 start moving into professions of importance.

And I just have to disassociate myself with all of what's going on. I consider myself an American, but if the last 10 years defines the new America, then I'm just going to drop that label. I'll go without one.. or move to Canada.

The lack of empathy just saddens me beyond belief. Imagine your 15 year old shot to death, out of the blue, stripped naked and held up to pose with his killers. I find it hard to believe that the entire population if Afghanistan is not joining the Taliban considering what our military has done to them.

It will never end.
