Kisha Curtis of Newark was charged with two fourth-degree offenses for "tormenting and torturing" an animal by failing to provide food and water, prosecutors said. The charges could carry a maximum jail sentence of 18 months and a fine of up to $10,000. She also faces two abandonment charges punishable by up to six months in jail with a $1,000 fine.
That sort of thing incenses me. This jackass needs some very severe treatment, followed by never being allowed to own an animal again - and while they're at it, forcibly sterilize her to make sure she doesn't breed.
What also incenses me is that it takes the severe abuse of an animal before people get involved with the issue of pet abandonment. I don't understand why people can't be that motivated as a normal condition, because there is always the same problem. Many times it's just not publicized so people don't seem to care.
We get requests to foster on a regular basis. John has been doing it for years, but we adopted the last rescue dog we had (Token, who is doing really well btw) and I'm not really wanting to get another foster yet. We've done way more than most people to help in any case.
I understand that having a complete lack of empathy is probably a mental disorder, and it's not quite on the level of sadism, but it still infuriates me.
