The name of the game in talk television and talk radio today is to register high on the outrage meter, because that’s how you build an audience, and Beck drew a huge one by cable standards. Half the country hates you, half the country loves you, but everyone in the echo chamber is talking about you. And it’s a formula that extends well beyond the media. Our society, not to put too fine a point on it, rewards inflammatory talk.
The Loon Brigade loves Beck... say 20-25%.. not "half the country".
Kurtz lives in the same "middle" that Sullivan does.. worshiping false equivalences. You see.. Keith Olbermann is just like Beck, only the other side of the coin.

When your career depends on appearing above the fray, you have to draw those bullshit connections and pearl clutch. The net result is that if you're going to be in the media, you can pick a side and be a "bitter partisan", which gets you all of the "extreme" people on your side. Or, you can play the "middle", and get a tepid, but possibly large, audience.
I really can't believe that Kurtz, Sullivan, et. all, are getting rich from it.

He is in the business of selling religious lies to a gullible audience. That's been an easy way to make money since the beginning of time. I'm sure the cavemen that discovered the many pleasures of fire used it to bargain for food and chicks with other cavemen.
