Critics of Christianity claim that believers are simply not disciplined enough to be moral people, so they use their religion as a crutch. As Greg Laurie once said when being interviewed by Larry King on CNN, "Jesus is not a crutch, He's the whole hospital."
While Liberalism claims that it is horrible that Christians believe we have a sinful nature, and only leaning on God can protect us from our dark human nature, those same Liberals believe that we must be protected from ourselves by government through policies that tell us to wear seat belts when we drive, that tell us to put away the phone when we drive even if it is hands-free....
The truth is, we have a dark human nature. Whether you believe that from a religious viewpoint, or a socialist viewpoint, the fact is that when left to our own devices we are going to screw up royally.
As a man of God, I am constantly thinking of the Lord. I have Him on my mind, for the most part, continuously. Our obedience to the Lord requires such diligence. Our dark human nature is constantly at war with our spiritual identity, and one must be on constant guard for the poison darts of the enemy.
That's text book deranged thinking. He's clinically obsessive, and out of his mind fucking crazy.
Seriously.. what kind of personality can write such a thing? He's "obedient" to the magic sky wizard? I kid you not, he is 24/7 fully consumed by a phantom of his imagination. If that isn't the definition of psychosis, I don't know what else could possibly qualify. And, the strange thing is, his thinking style is exactly the same as the islamic "terraists". It's identical.
... and I love the sprinkling of paranoia of "poison darts". That's classic Gibbs.

You're truly perplexed how we can be exceptionally moral people without giving a thought to religion.. aren't you? The answer to that, Doug, is that I am not you. I am not that dark person by my very nature as you are. It's as simple as that.
If you need Jesus to keep you out of trouble, that's fine. Don't presume to tell me that I do when I don't. I don't need that crutch no matter how much you stamp your feet and insist I do.
By the way.. the reason why the government requires you to wear a seat belt, or not use a phone, has nothing to do with you killing yourself. When you do not wear a seat belt, your chance at greater injury goes up. That increases the cost of the hospital bill. That costs the insurance company more money. The insurance company is a pooled risk paradigm, therefore when you are not wearing your seat belt and incur more hospital bills, that affects everyone else's rates. When what you are doing affects everyone else, the government has every right to tell you that you have to wear one.
When you use your phone while driving, get distracted and have an accident, you can kill somebody else. That means the government can tell you that you cannot use your phone while driving.
Doug, this isn't rocket science (which your 172IQ could easily grasp I'm sure). I don't know why you have trouble understanding this. You are free to do to yourself whatever you want as far as I'm concerned. When your behavior can injure somebody else, the government steps in.
Why is it that you can't understand that? That's a rhetorical question, of course, because you have no answer. You'll just delete this.

You frame everything in terms of your paranoia. I know this might be news to you, but the vast majority of people are not constantly in a state of fear, or a sense of victimization and persecution. Most don't feel constantly under siege.
If you take one thing away from any exchange you've ever had with me, let it be this;
Not everyone thinks in the way that you do. Not everyone has the same emotional sensibilities. Not everyone feels persecuted or victimized by society. In short, most of us don't think (and I'm not referring to position on issues) the way you do. Our inner voice is very different than yours is. What we need from the world is different than what you need. What we need for spiritual comfort is different than what you need. What we fear is very, very different than what you fear.
Read your post back to yourself, and ask yourself why you think I need the same things you do? Why do you presume that? Why can't I be free of the things that enslave you? I am not afraid - not of the islamic boogeyman... not from a vengeful sky wizard that will caste me into eternal separation.. not from anything. I live a life without fear, because that's just how I'm wired.
The big fight in politics and religion is summed simply. I want you to do whatever you want.. have whatever god you want, whatever fear you want.. just have that for yourself and enjoy. You want me to be like you. That will never happen.
