Government only moves money around. It creates nothing. Government cannot create wealth, jobs in the private industry, or business growth. The best thing government can do to allow the economy to turn around is get out of the way. Cut taxes, and eliminate regulations that stifle growth.

Government spending does not stimulate economic growth. Government spending moves money around, and keeps it from where it is really needed - in the private sector.

The massive stimulus package boosted real GDP by up to 4.5 percent in the second quarter of 2010 and put up to 3.3 million people to work, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said on Tuesday.

CBO’s latest estimate indicates that the stimulus effort, which remains a political hot potato ahead of the November congressional elections, may have prevented the sluggish U.S. economy from contracting between April and June.

Economists surveyed by Reuters expect that revised numbers due out on Friday will show that the economy grew at an anemic 1.4 percent pace during that time period — less than the boost of at least 1.7 percent that the stimulus provided, according the CBO estimate.

Doug has a propensity just to claim things without checking to see if they're true or not. He does it in virtually every post he writes;

Yes, the numbers are very slowly rising. Doug characterizes that as "plunging".

It goes without saying that Doug is a serial liar, and he's just writing propaganda. That's rather pedestrian. The larger problem is that the American electorate doesn't give a shit if the "stimulus" prevented a larger economic catastrophe. It doesn't matter that "conservative economics" caused this massive implosion.

The problem is that Obama's failure to guide Congress in properly dealing with the economic conditions will inevitably lead to "liberalism" as an ideology being blamed for the whole fucking mess... despite, you know, Obama not being very "liberal" at all.

This is why the teabaggers are gaining steam, and why Obama is setting back liberal ideology for decades to come.

Doug will continue to lie about just about everything, and what I'm curious about is whether or not he's doing it on purpose as just a propaganda tool, or if he actually believes the bullshit he's shovelling. It's the "Stupid vs. Evil" question - and while the world burns down around us, that's really what I'm curious about.

All signs point to "stupid", but I'd be mighty impressed if he would just confess to being evil. That would totally ruin my theories about him.
