Quote of the Day

There’s nothing in the world more tired than a progressive blogger like me flipping out over the latest idiocies emanating from the Fox News crowd. But this summer’s media hate-fest is different than anything we’ve seen before. What we’re watching is a calculated campaign to demonize blacks, Mexicans, and gays and convince a plurality of economically-depressed white voters that they are under imminent legal and perhaps even physical attack by a conspiracy of leftist nonwhites. They’re telling these people that their government is illegitimate and criminal and unironically urging secession and revolution. - Matt Taibbi

It sort of reminds me of Doug's accusations that I'm an "elitist". What we're seeing is a lot of uneducated, underachieving, lower-middle class white people losing their fucking minds. Limbaugh and Beck, etc., know that these people don't give a shit about whether or not any of the rhetoric is true. They just know that they are the oppressed majority, and it's about god damn time that the non-white, non-heterosexual, non-knuckle dragging heathens be put in their place.

How this works in an electoral context remains to be seen... but I dearly hope the teabaggers win it all. I want Sarah Palin as the next President of the United States. I want a full on display of what happens when the Doug Gibbs' of the world are put in charge.

You think shit's fucked up now? It'll be fucking glorious... unless you look like a muslim. That might not go so well for you.

.....

Take this recent bit from Doug Gibbs;

The plan is to expand to around 150 students in the school’s first four years and that they want to eventually train young people for careers in U.S. law, journalism, academia, and other fields (that way they can take over America internally faster).

Some muslims want to build a university in the US - and base it on sharia law. Notice the lovely paranoia. The muslims are going to "take over America".

Is it even possible to fathom the insanity that is required to write such a thing? I'm not kidding at all. Is it possible for a person who has a decent grasp on reality to even consider such a thing?

Doug wants to be taken seriously, and he thinks that we're all going to be forced to bow to Mecca before long.

Seriously..

But of course, Doug, like most racists and bigots, doesn't actually spell out what they think should be done about the situation. They just like to make it seem like we're all going to die so we can come to the right conclusion on our own. We all know what the right solution for the problem of muslims taking over America is.. right?

Anyway.. here's the comment I left for the evil piece of shit, that he'll inevitably delete.

This is one of those posts where you whine about muslims, but don't actually propose anything.

So, they're wanting to build a religious university - say, like BYU, but for muslims. We know that there is supposed to be this thing called "religious freedom" in America, but we just don't like the way the muslims conduct themselves.

Legally.. they have every right to build such a college, just like legally, they have a right to build a mosque near the WTC site - but you obviously think that's an existential threat to our freedom.

What you stop short of doing is explaining what should be done about it. Why don't you explain that Doug? I'd really really love to know what you think should be done within the law to prevent them from building the school - if preventing them from building the school is actually what you want. I'm not positive on that, because you don't say.

Why can't you be clear about that Doug? Don't you have any suggestions on how to deal with the situation? Surely, being the legal scholar that you are, you would know just what to do.

.....

Taibbi sez;

I'm beginning to wonder why effective boycotts against these hate-media channels, and particularly Fox, haven’t been organized yet. Why not just pick out one Fox advertiser at random and make an example out of it? How about Subaru and their unintentionally comic “Love” slogan? I actually like their cars, but what the fuck? How about Pep Boys and that annoying logo of theirs? Just to prove that it can be done, I’d like to see at least one firm get blown out of business as a consequence of financially supporting the network that is telling America that its black president wants to kill white babies. Isn't that at least the first move here? It's beginning to strike me that sitting by and doing nothing about this madness is not a terribly responsible way to behave.

Of course, doing nothing is not very responsible... that's why we all got behind Obama and spent money and effort to get him elected. Turned out that he's a terrible President - and regardless of what we do, we're fucked. Trying to organize a boycott of Faux will accomplish nothing but stoke the paranoia of their viewers that are convinced that they are being targeted.

If you have some money - what you do is sit by and do nothing.. and go buy the most expensive popcorn you can find and just enjoy the show. If you have money - that fixes just about everything. Bonus points if you are not a muslim looking person (whatever that is)... or hispanic.. or somehow look like a "welfare queen".

Trying to oppose crazy as fuck Americans is not worth trying to do anymore, because even if we "win", it won't change anything and we'll be just as fucked as if we encouraged the lunatics. Better to let it burn.

That make sense?
