Quote of the Day

People dependent on religion like to claim that atheism is just another religion, and they argue that we can't know that we'd have a better society if we got rid of god (and usually go the other way and claim we'd be immoral without our imaginary cosmic policeman in the sky), but you know, I look around at all the atheist communities springing up around the country, and I see the people who are most committed to tolerance and equality joining them, and I am convinced. A godless America would be a better America, one more committed to the Enlightenment ideals that accompanied its founding, one that would actually have some ideals and principles that would make it a better place to live for everyone. - PZ Myers

Some people like to read certain authors because they learn new things from them. I read Myers because he well articulates the way I already think.

As the Atheist movement goes forward, religious people nail themselves to any nearby cross they can find. They are the ultimate victims.. and they will play it for all it's worth.

Religion offers nothing but a crutch for emotional weakness. If you can't make enough money.. blame it on society and pray to Jebus to fix it for you. Become ill, distrust scientists and pray to Jebus to fix it for you. Have a problem in a relationship, pray to Jebus to make the other person the way you'd like them to be.

Make no mistake.. the goal of the so-called "New Atheism" is to destroy religion. That's sounds like some nefarious plot, eh? In reality.. the way that's done is just by demonstrating that living in reality is better than living a fantasy where some other diety will fix things for you.. or give you some sort of illusion of "strength".. or whatever made up excuses for your own failures you want to conjure up.

When you realize that you live in a real world with real consequences and real solutions, you can do what you need to do to get where you want to go. You won't have to plan a trip to fantasy land to absolve yourself of responsibility for your own life.

Religion is paradigm that has enslaved humanity for millenia. Once we realize we're all human.. and all more or less the same.. we can start working for and with each other and make the world just an awesome place to be.

The religious want to be the victims.. fine.. They can be the their own worst enemies... because the rest of us.. well, we're just going to do it without you.
