The Dying GOP

I've been goading Doug to write another anti-gay screed considering the successes of late. He's finally written one, and it's pretty weak.

There's also a very nice little bit in there about the war going on in the Land of the Loon. I'm very pleased.

Seriously Doug.. you do know that the people who supported the bans on inter-racial marriage were using scripture to support there point of view, right?

You do know that in a secular society, our system of law does not make exceptions for biblical scripture, right?

Seriously.. You know that in Loving vs. Virginia, the "men in black robes" forced inter-racial marriage on 13 states in the US. Your argument is, that was okay, because the bible doesn't support a ban on inter-racial marriage.

However, you do NOT support the men in black robes forcing same-sex marriage on a state because same-sex marriage IS proscribed in the bible.

You do understand that, right? You do see how completely illogical that is, right?

You just made my argument for me in a way you have never done before. You've finally explained why courts can force a law on a society that does not accept it in one case, but not in the other. The deciding factor, to you, is the bible.

In 1968, when Loving vs. Virgina was handed down, and states forced to re-write their marriage laws.. over 70% of the American public opposed inter-racial marriage. Those people thought you should not be allowed to marry your own wife.

How does that make you feel? Can you answer me that? Is it possible you can approve one comment and answer that question directly?

Can you show me where in the Constitution is says that the judiciary has jurisdiction in cases where the bible is clearly supportive, and does not have jurisdiction where the bible says it is opposed?

Can you say that and then say you don't support a "theocracy"?

Holy.. cow.. what a mess you have going on in your mind.

In terms of the GOP.. I'm happy with either case. I'm glad to see there is a war going on there, while Democrats are unified, and independents overwhelmingly support our President.

If your movement gains control the GOP.. you lose. If you split of to a 3rd party.. you lose worse.. just ask Ralph Nader and Ross Perot.

It's not just a "Dying GOP" Doug. Your movement is dying.. and you can either listen to what I've been trying to tell you and join the country.. or you can wall yourself off and listen to the whispers in your head that are causing you to go slowly.. mad.

The days tick by.. and we have years and years more to go.
