Science is Awesome

I was born with cataracts (congenital). They did not affect my vision much at all as I was growing up. I started to have problems somewhere in my early 30's I guess, and it's been slowly getting worse. I can't read a dinner menu in a restaurant now, and my distance vision is being affected as well.

I could have had cataract surgery, and that would have fixed it, but the problem with the surgery is that the implant the doctors use to replace the eye lens does not flex like a normal eye lens. Being able to see up close, for reading and such, requires the lens to flex in order to change the focus of the eye. I didn't want to have that happen before I couldn't hardly see at all.

But.. huzzah! Science to the rescue. Crystal Lens is a eye lens replacement that imitates your natural lens. You can read.. you can see distance, intermediate.. with full and vivid colors which the cataracts have washed out before. The only disappointment is that people who already have had traditional lens replacement cannot have the new lens implanted.

I'm very happy I waited.. I literally just found out about this yesterday.. and I'm going to make an appointment with an eye surgeon that uses this new lens right away.

You can't imagine what it would be like to have 20/20 vision at all distances, with sharp and focused sight. Right now, if I look up at the moon, I see an object that looks like an out of focus picture that was smudged. It's going to be awesome.

I was born with cataracts. Many many people develop the condition as the natural part of aging. From now on, you can get your vision returned to you like it was when you were 20.. and heck, everyone.. and there are no exceptions, loose their ability to focus up close when they get to their late 40's. Now you can have that fixed as well. No more reading glasses.

It's really exciting to me.
