Gorak Help Me

Okay.. I know I need some form of therapy. Somebody left a comment in the post below this one regarding this exact issue.

I simply cannot stop reading Doug Gibbs' blog. It's the most inane and patently insane shit you can imagine. Well.. if you read me for a while, you obviously don't have to imagine. I just cannot get over how one human being can be so fundamentally twisted.

Soo.. what is it this time? Is it some nefarious Liberal plot to feed all the God Fearin' Christians to the proverbial lions? Is it some plot of Barack Obama to hand our nation over to Ossama Bin Laden?

NO!!!!!! IT's teh assault on our values by skinny women!

I shit you not.

Now, I am not saying that a thin woman is a bad thing, or that people have to fit my perceived ideal body type. I am saying that a woman that is so thin that she looks malnourished can be a bad thing, and possibly even medically damaging.

I agree that it is their business. But when that many of them in these neighborhoods, and I mean a very large percentage of them, are that thin, it makes you wonder what the underlying cause may be.

Is it a symptom of scrambled standards and lost principles? Has the onslaught against values brought us to this? Could it be that the people in our society have become so narcissistic that they are willing to endanger themselves with unhealthy behaviors to accomplish whatever it is they think they must accomplish?

You know.. I read that.. and I thought.. hey.. there might be some women out there who think they need to be thin. They might have some sort of emotional problem, or some issue that some counseling might help out with... because I think all kinds of women are hot.. It's an attitude more than anything else. But there's also something to be said for having a presentation.. and no, that has nothing to do with weight. Putting some thought and effort into ones appearance is a good thing.

I did NOT think that our impending slide into the depravities of hell is causing women to eat nothing but rice cakes until they make themselves sick. Are there women that do that? Probably. Do they need some therapy? No doubt.

Anyway.. I left this comment that he'll delete.. yadda yadda yadda..

You're actually trying to link thin women to an "onslaught on values"? Really? I'm serious.. really?

The perceived notion of what is "attractive" constantly shifts, by culture, by tradition, by any number of complex social norms.

Remember Jane Mansfield? She defined the "full figured woman" for a generation. American men loved that.. for many years. Then the attraction changed, and it changed again, and it'll change again in the future.

It is beyond bizarre that you constantly try to link every shred of every changing social norm to some nefarious plot to wreak destruction on what you perceive to be "values". It's an extreme and baseless paranoia.

You know Doug.. times change.. cultures change. And while really thin women had their time in the sun for a while, we're already starting to see that shift again. Heck, even the modelling agencies are starting to restrict too-thin women.

I know you desperately wish to classify our society as in some sort of moral decay. I hate to break it to you. It's not. We're doing pretty well, and I suspect it's just going to get better over the next decade.

What are you going to whine about then? QQ

He should probably consider checking his own mental health before he tries fixing everybody else.
