First Things, First

Obama just signed his first executive orders. I'm not one to gush over a politician, but it's hard to not be pleased by the major changes. His comments were related to changes in lobbying rules, freezing pay of top staffers, changes in the use of the Freedom of Information Act, and a new standard of openness from the President.

Obama just placed rules on himself that prohibit him from simply classifying information at will, and will require the authorization of the Attorney General.

As he said, "Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstone of this Presidency."

One of the things I've noticed with Obama, is his demeanor is just so Presidential. He's calm and assured, setting a serious tone of competent leadership. He's a relatively young man, but has total command over the atmosphere of the administration. In other words, it seems like the grown ups are in charge for a change.

I'd imagine there's going to be an avalanche of FoIA requests related to the Bush administration. One can only imagine what's gone on.

we gotta see what he does before we judge him

Which is what that post was about. I judged him based on his executive orders that he signed his second day in office.

It's a good start.
