Day 3
Prez. Obama signed 4 executive orders today, restoring the rule of law;
Close Guantanamo Bay within one year.
End and prohibit torture as an interrogation method. The army field manual will once again be applied.
Guantanamo detainee disposition policies.
Order a review of evidence against a particular terrorist suspect.
Contessa Brewer on MSNBC criticized Obama for not "allowing Congress" to pass new legislation to the same effect of the orders... despite the fact that nobody said shit when all of those policies were put in motion by executive orders in the first place. Contessa Brewer isn't too bright.
I was also struck by the image of 11 old white guys standing behind a young black guy.. who just happens to be the President of the United States. Pretty cool.
...
Obama's press secretary Robert Gibbs.. I liked him during the campaign, and I think he'll be quite good in his new job. That.. and he's an Irish guy like me, and that he's cute is just a bonus.
Notice Obama in the background with his Blackberry. I've not heard if he still has it. On the one hand, we want our President to be plugged in to the modern tools and communications technologies, but on the other hand.. there's probably an army of Chinese 16 year olds that are trying to intercept the traffic.
/update
And shazzam.. literally seconds after I published this post, MSNBC reported that Obama is going to keep his Blackberry. Apparently they've worked out some sort of deal with the service provider to provide some additional security measures.
Umm.. 'k
The report also said that all the IT equipment at the White House was using 6 year old versions of Microsoft products. I'm not surprised.
