Monumentally Stupid

CHICAGO – Federal authorities arrested Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich Tuesday on charges that he brazenly conspired to sell or trade the Senate seat left vacant by President-elect Barack Obama to the highest bidder.

Blagojevich also was charged with illegally threatening to withhold state assistance to Tribune Co., the owner of the Chicago Tribune, in the sale of Wrigley Field, according to a federal criminal complaint. In return for state assistance, Blagojevich allegedly wanted members of the paper's editorial board who had been critical of him fired.

It seems to me that a person has to have quite a lot of ego to be involved in politics. With ego comes a sense of entitlement. He probably doesn't think he's really doing anything wrong. He thinks he deserves it... the influence.. the power.. money.. and.. I'd wager just about anything that he has some sort of twisted sexual history. I'd bet my house on it.

(*note* there's nothing wrong with twisted sexual histories in most cases - but being a hypocrit is an issue)

How stupid and brazen would he have to be to think he could actually get away with it? These corrupt practices must be standard operating procedure considering all these assholes who have been arrested over the last few Congressional terms. He just assumed that's how things worked, because a lot of other people do it.

...

In a more philosophic sense.. I wonder if there are more honest people than dishonest in the world. I think more dishonest, but then I tend to be pessimistic about human nature.

I'm brutally honest because it's a very liberating feeling. When you combine that with an "I don't give a flying fuck what you think of me" attitude, you can pretty much say it like it is.. and do it like it is.

Then there's a whole herd of people that are serial liars, while claiming to be morally superior to everyone else. Doug and the Loon Brigade fall into that category. Very religious people are the most maddening because the astonishing degree of hypocrisy involved, and they'll deny it to the end. At least with your common thief, they know they're a common thief, and tend not to put on a big show of playing the victim.

It truly is a competitive world. There's a million different ways to justify cheating. Assuming everyone else is cheating is the very best ways to do it. It's more or less true.

One of my life goals is to never show up on my teevee. That's gotta suck.

...

And what's with the hair? It makes Charlie Cook look natural.

...

Fitzgerald is on my teevee explaining the extent of the corruption. It's pretty remarkable.. This is a very dishonest guy, and he needs a few years time-out to think about what he's done.

You know, there's shit that you can sell on the sly.. and shit that you can't sell without getting busted.

And I think most people would realize that the Senate seat being vacated by the guy who is probably the most famous man in the world right now falls into the category of "shit that you can't sell without getting busted"
