The American Mecca

You know how Muslims are required to make a pilgrimage (Hajj) to Mecca at least once in their life?

This how we do it in America;

A worker died after being trampled and a woman miscarried when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island Wal-Mart Friday morning, witnesses said.

The unidentified worker, employed as an overnight stock clerk, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m.

Civilization hangs by a thread.. as most people in the world truly are insane. I can't even begin to imagine the level of desperation required to get up before the sun, crowd at the front of a Wal-Mart, beat down the doors, and trample some poor sod trying to keep the barbarians at bay, killing him.

All to get a few bucks off some stupid toy.

Did everyone have a nice Thanksgiving? We had a nice dinner and watched the Cowboy's game at John's folks house.

It's an interesting holiday.. this giving of thanks.. where we celebrate the cruel ruse the Pilgrims played on the native peoples, leading them to think they would be friends and work together to build a better future for all, but instead butchering and destroying their tribes, stealing their lands, and killing men, women, and children in a mass bloodbath.

I suppose the holiday has morphed into simply taking stock of the good things in our lives and, for one day, appreciating it.
