Well, how conveeenient. These things are best understood, in my view, simply in perspective: as minor issues compared to the public policies and secular arguments of the politicians involved. This is what liberalism allows for: it can simply say that an immoral private life may be a negative, but it is not to be conflated with much more salient matters of public import. With political liberalism, you can have your moral cake and your politics too. But this kind of separation of public and private, of politics and morals, is not as available to the theocons and Christianists, who want their politicians as moral avatars, not public servants. Which is why they keep getting hoist by their own wide stances.

It's irritating to me the way that Sullivan refers to "theocons and Christianists". He does this only because he considers himself a "conservative", and thus wants to separate that political ideology from the Loon Brigade.

Sorry Sully.. that IS "conservative" in the United States now. Perhaps you haven't noticed that the Liberals have co-opted some of the better policy views of the Goldwater conservatives, eh? Can you say, "illegal wiretaps", and "government sanctioned torture"? How about "suspension of habeas corpus" or "Signing statements"?

In any case.. Sullivan is largely correct that Liberals/Progressives don't give a flying fuck about.. who somebody is fucking.. or if they like porn.. or blow some guy in an airport men's room... It is sort of bad taste to divorce your wife when she's being treated for cancer.. as Newt Gingrich did. It's kinda poor form to be a thrice divorced former Mayor of New York, whose own kids can't stand him.... but you know.. I wouldn't hold that against you if you run for office.

But.. you hypocritical right wing freaks don't get a pass on it.. ohhhh no. I think maybe I'll have some t-shirts printed up with a pic of McMaveric saying "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt." Hmm.. maybe it should just say, "You Cunt!"

This is why the French President can get caught fucking a porn star (who is not his wife) and nobody really gives a fuck. They're not insane. Most of the men would fuck her too if they got the chance. It has nothing to do with policy.

In the United States, they hold hearings, and impeach presidents.. even if all they got was a blow job and not the poon... But still.. how dumb do you have to be.. when you're the President of the United States.. and you're getting a blow job from a chubby intern.. in the White House.. while you're wife is in the White House.. and then.. to top it off.. you blow all over the intern's dress? You gotta be more careful where that stuff ends up.
