Asshat Quote of the Day

You play the victim very well. - Jennifer
Being upset at the dehumanization of an entire category of human beings.. millions and millions of them.. is "play(ing) the victim card".

Obviously she cannot be reached.. but when I get some more time (I've already posted too much today), I'll take apart the whole thing, for the benefit of those whose characteristics are not defined externally, and by something completely devoid of any rational thought.

For what it's worth.. and as much as I bag on religious people and conservatives.. I really don't think they can help it. It's simply a condition of one's own makeup. Just as one person can comprehend and appreciate a chamber piece from G.F. Handel, some prefer Achey Breaky Heart.

I still can't get over how John looks identical to Handel - minus the funky wig.

You want a victim?

1. Holocaust

2. Innocent Iraqui's getting slaughtered by Sadam.

3. Starving people in Africa, or dying from Aids with no medical care available.

4. A child getting raped by a parent, or anybody for that matter.

5. Slavery

6. Child Abuse

Yeah, Tom.....you really rank up there with them. Yes, you not getting certain legal rights is definitely worse than murder, rape, starving, slavery, abuse. etc. If that is truly how you think, then you are right, I can't be reached. I have far too much common sense!

Dehumanization....Give me a break!! Are we a bit of a drama queen??

It's funny that you judge Christians in everything you say or do, but when it criticism is aimed back at you, you just can't handle it. It works both ways.

I truly should have known better than to try and have a reasonable debate with you. And you think I'm the one that's not rational. Yeah....okay!

It's ironic, I thought I might actually be able to learn something from you if I gave it a chance. But I can see that you are so narrow minded regarding religion and Conservatives that no amount of discussion will knock a lick of sense into you. So go into your little bubble and give the woe is me bit, maybe somebody else will actually buy it. I'm done!

That's horrible logic.

That's like saying that if your house burned down, you shouldn't feel loss because sometimes fires are bigger, or kill people.

Just because other things are more horrible doesn't make any other situation horrible or not. It has no relevance.

One thing I don't understand is that making gay marriage unconstitutional effectively makes federal mandate church law. You are letting the Fed Govn't tell your church how to operate. It seems bizzare.

In any case, it really should be a non-issue. We dissolved "seperate but equal" a long time ago. We have never looked back on denying a group of people rights and thought it was a good idea. Never. Ever. Period.

Why is this even a discussion?

Point taken, but in that case, couldn't we all play the victim card? Every group of people or organization has people or rules that they don't like, but I don't hear them crying dehumanization!! Like I said before, they deserve the exact same rights as straight people do, I just believe it should be called a civil union, and that is Dehumanizing. Get real!!

What reason is there to call it something different? Does it hurt you to call it mariage?

The point is that by saying they get the same rights, only different, you are saying that they are different. That they can't have marriage. That only you can have marriage.

It's just like saying they have to use a different bathroom, or sit on a different side of the bus. You are segregating them. And yes, that's dehumanizing. It's humiliating them. It's degrading them. That IS dehumanizing.
