I haven't really thought much about how far south the dollar has gone versus foreign currency. In most respects, it doesn't matter. It doesn't have much effect on the prices we pay for things, except for gas and such.
It does have it's up-side. It's cheaper for foreigners to buy American goods, so the trade gaps narrow.. and it brings in tourists because it's cheap for them to come here.
But there is one thing about the low dollar that is rather depressing. Imported goods are expensive as shit.
John and I went to an Audi dealer last week to look at the R8. They didn't have one - boo - because, apparently, they sell them pretty past. However, the Porsche dealer is under the same dealership and so we went and looked at 911 Turbos. Needless to say, they're pretty awesome. The MSRP in the 120-130K range or so.. but they had used models with something like 800 miles on them.. asking $153,000... for a slightly used Porsche!
This is more than likely due to the crap value of the dollar versus the Euro. The Germans aren't going to accept much less for their cars than they are used to.
I might be stuck having to talk John into buying me an American super car instead of a German one.. and that kind of sucks. har
oh.. and the Porsche dealer also had a Lamborghini Murcielago. They are really tiny cars.. but daammnn, imagine driving that thing.
