A Giant Strawman

Doug being Doug;

It's pretty amazing. He does not substantiate his argument with one single shred of evidence. Not a one..

Obama and Clinton are both advancing economic ideas that are essentially Marxist in their nature. They both have proposed radical new levels of taxation for Americans whom they believe possess "too much" wealth, and unprecedented new levels of governmental intervention and regulation with American enterprise so as to "fix" our nation’s problems with health care, energy, and the environment.
He demonstrates not a single "idea" that is socialist. He doesn't link any source for that which he does quote.. i.e. the "too much", quote.. which doesn't exist.

It is the biggest straw man argument yet.

Here's an example of a liberal that's been in the news lately. Bill Foster recently won the Congressional seat that belonged to Denny Hastert.

Foster has a Ph.D. in physics from Harvard. He worked as a physicist at Fermilab for 22 years. He left Fermilab to run his own company that employs over 650 people. He's quite wealthy.

What part of socialist applies?

Liberals understand that government has to be paid for. Taxes must be collected. The wealthiest Americans pay a larger share of the tax burden, but then they also collect a larger share of the income. A lot of the wealthiest Americans are liberal.. which means they support paying a higher percentage of taxes than poor people - which is really not in their selfish best interest.. because they aren't selfish.

I could quote and link to the relevant statistics, but let's make it simple. If you eliminate the progressive tax, the budget still needs to be paid for, right? Simple logic would dictate that if you lower the tax on one segment, you have to increase the tax on the other. Therefore, The Loons advocate increasing their own taxes, and that of the poor.

Hey.. using Doug's philosophy, why not "equal share" tax. Everyone who pays taxes pays the exact same amount.. so Bill Gates, and a single mom working as a waitress pays exactly the same. Gates would have lots and lots of money left over. The waitress will owe more than she takes in. Hey, it's her own damn fault she's not making enough money, right?

Liberals also understand that certain public services are provided by the government for the "common good". This includes defense, police, fire.. and heck, esoteric stuff like roads and business regulation. We also think that the government, since it already pays for more than half of all health care in the United States, would be a good way to ensure everyone has access to medical care.

Social Security is a good thing. Medi-Care, and Medi-Caid are good things.

Heck, Doug's own son might be dead if not for the "socialized" Medi-Caid system, paid for by the "village".

Let me make this simple and clear.. because I really don't have the energy to rebut The Loon point by point this time..

Liberals are capitalists. We like money, earned fairly. We like education, which is why Universities are often referred to as "liberal". We like achievement and effort. We like innovation and invention. We like being treated fairly and equally.. all people regardless of race, economic status, gender, sexual orientation, etc. We like a government that is paid for, and that provides for "common good" services (keeping lead paint out of the toys would be nice, eh?). We like to be compassionate to the less fortunate, and don't assume everyone else is just lazy.

Stop referring to American liberals as "socialists", "communists", or "marxists". We are die-hard capitalists and free-marketers.
