Asshat Quote of the Day

"When we become believers, it's as if we have signed up to be part of God's Army, to be soldiers for Christ... When you give yourself to Christ, some relationships have to go. It's no longer your life; you've signed it over." - Mike Huckabee
This is the sort of thinking that leads to suicide bombers.

I've always considered all religious types to be exactly the same, simply separated by small degrees. Today's Islamic Jihad is yesterday's Crusades. It's simply not culturally acceptable to suicide bomb in the United States, but Christianity and Islam is exactly the same otherwise. The underlying foundations of giving up ones self to authority is what all religions have in common. That's really the definition of religion.

I find it much better to not submit myself to anyone or any thing. I can see the world for what it is, and speculate in my own mind about the things I cannot see, but I will not "sign over" to anyone. I will not be anyone's tool.

I do feel bad for people that are so weak in their own soul and spirituality (which is a very different thing than religion) that they are driven to find "comfort" outside of themselves. Sometimes that comfort may be a completely benign entity, but when it's exploited by evil men and institutions (very often religion), it spawns the hell on earth that people are seeking comfort from in the first place.

Make no mistake, Huckabee, for all his "aww shucks" charisma, is a highly dangerous individual. Anyone who uses the words "Christ" and "soldier" in the same sentence should scare people exactly the same way that "Muhammad" and "jihad" does.
