I went to Baylor hospital today for a pulmonary function test. The hospital is huge, and to get to the pulmonary lab, I had to walk through some of the patient wards.
Hospitals have a distinctive smell, and I'm not sure why. Perhaps they all use the same chemical for disinfecting and cleaning. It's the most depressing smell in the world. It really is awful. If my time ever comes (and I'm still hoping some clever scientist cures death before long), I do NOT want to be in a hospital when it happens. It's just the worst place ever.
As for the test, it involved a lot of inhaling as much as possible, and exhaling as much as possible. I got light headed a bit. They also took some blood to check to see how the oxygen transfer in my lungs is doing. I'm pretty sure that the test will be normal, just like the EKG. I don't have the classic wheezing of asthma, but my symptom is just a general constriction. I was able to inhale and exhale what seems to me a normal amount of air.
You know how when you are breathing, you don't notice it and your minds focus is not on it? Very often to me, my mind's focus is on my breathing because there is an abnormal feeling there. It's weird.
