Stil More Surging

Interesting bit of comments on one of Doug's post here;

What I did was post references to reporting that contradicts Doug's unsubstantiated assertions, and the reaction from his loon brigade was typical.

I agree Paul. I have spoken with many soldiers through Soldiers Angels and not one of them said anything about failing or not accomplishing anything. I think it all depends on what source Thomas got his information from! What do you expect from a anti-military news source. I wouldn't suggest telling our soldiers that they are not accomplishing anything over there, when they put their lives on the line everyday...... I can promise you they wouldn't like it!

Two points to take from this.

First, if a newsmedia report contradicts their world view, the reporting instantly becomes "biased", and therefore false. It makes absolutely no difference if the reporting is entirely credible, factual, and without contradiction. They will never acknowledge the reality because to do that would be to destroy their identity. It's an inherently dishonest practice.

Second, whenever factual, but negative, reporting is cited about Iraq, the loon brigade will knee-jerk it into an "anti-military" spin. They clearly do not want any sort of reality based reporting because we would be "telling our soldiers they are failing". That is, quite literally, insane. Can you actually believe she said that? We must ignore reality because we don't want to rain on a soldier's parade? Fucking loon.. I mean.. that's one of the stupidest things I've read on Doug's blog, and there's lots and lots of stupid-as-fuck shit posted there.

To ignore the reality of the situation is to subject our military to more danger for an ever-more useless cause. The proper way to "support the troops" is to understand and acknowledge the reality, which includes the reality that many have stated, that the problems in Iraq are not solvable by the military. The "surge" is merely a slogan designed to extend the military engagement in Iraq. Clearly the President is trying to leave Iraq to to his successor in order to absolve himself of the horrors.

Support the troops? Get them the fuck out because having them there is not doing a god damn thing except getting more young Americans killed.

More reporting on the "surge" from the AP;

This year's U.S. troop buildup has succeeded in bringing violence in Baghdad down from peak levels, but the death toll from sectarian attacks around the country is running nearly double the pace from a year ago.

Some of the recent bloodshed appears the result of militant fighters drifting into parts of northern Iraq, where they have fled after U.S.-led offensives. Baghdad, however, still accounts for slightly more than half of all war-related killings - the same percentage as a year ago, according to figures compiled by The Associated Press....

- Iraq is suffering about double the number of war-related deaths throughout the country compared with last year - an average daily toll of 33 in 2006, and 62 so far this year.

- Nearly 1,000 more people have been killed in violence across Iraq in the first eight months of this year than in all of 2006. So far this year, about 14,800 people have died in war-related attacks and sectarian murders. AP reporting accounted for 13,811 deaths in 2006. The United Nations and other sources placed the 2006 toll far higher.

- Baghdad has gone from representing 76 percent of all civilian and police war-related deaths in Iraq in January to 52 percent in July, bringing it back to the same spot it was roughly a year ago.

- According to the Iraqi Red Crescent Organization, the number of displaced Iraqis has more than doubled since the start of the year, from 447,337 on Jan. 1 to 1.14 million on July 31.
But hey.. in the Land of the Loon, the surge is a remarkable success that just proves that we need to send even more troops (which we don't have) and kill even more people.. because if we just kill more, everything will be fine.

This is reason #594 why Doug is a fucking liar. He simply posts, "the military successes in Iraq keep piling up faster than they can handle" without a shred of evidence, and he refuses to correct his posts when proven wrong.

That is the definition of a pathological liar.

And that is what they call "supporting the troops"? Those stupid fuckers don't realize that the best way to support our troops is to have them home with their families and not in body bags.

Assholes..

We want honest journalism, not one sided, partisan spin. No one ever said that we should ignore the negatives, but some balanced reporting of good news is expected.

"Some of the recent bloodshed appears the result of militant fighters drifting into parts of northern Iraq, where they have fled after U.S.-led offensives." It would seem that the philosophy of the surge is working. Take ground and hold it, therefore causing militants to flee to other places. Seems as if this is a good thing.

I need to go find out the number of attacks. The number of deaths in and of itself is not a good basis to determine the level of violence. The number of attacks is. For example, 1,000 bombs could kill 10,000 people. But 100 bombs could also kill 11,000 people if they were large enough and in the correct venue. With the Iranians supplying military hardwarre to use for attacks, it will of course be more efficient.

No need for the sophomoric and juvenile language and name calling. We adults can discuss these things civily.

Willfull ignorance as Jennifer descirbes is not only the death of those soldiers, but the death of democracy. You espose democrazy ( I misstyped that at first, but I think I like it) and all it embraces EXCEPT the ability of those governed to question the actions of their government. You fail to understand the very fundamentals of what you want others to die for. I feel sorry for you.
