Asshat Quote of the Day

It's unfortunate, but sometimes innocents are lost in a war. - Douglas V. Gibbs, July 16, '07

Our brave troops are being court-martialed for doing their job (Haditha is a great example of that) and are being killed because of the restrictions that have been placed on them by a politically correct ideology that rivals Islam in regards to how dangerous it is. - Douglas V. Gibbs, April 24, '07

I normally don't post that sort of picture. Sometimes it helps to undersand exactly what people are advocating.

You are right, Tom, it would be nice if war and death was not an option. But in the real world dictators and evil exists - and it must be met with force. As for Haditha, I wasn't there, so I will probably never take a firm stance. However, put yourself in the shoes of those troops: surrounded by the enemy, and they are using civilians as shield, as well as blending in with the crowds. The enemy is not one that plays by the rules of conventional warfare, so your trigger finger is twitching, knowing that even a kid may walk up to you and hand you a live grenade with one tick left on it. The blood of the victims in Haditha is on the hands of those that used them as shields. Yes, it is unfortunate, and I have seen plenty of it, but death happens in war. Reality of the world, my friend. A few thousand there, or many thousands here. Be careful of the choices, because there is more than meets the eye.

You think the war in Iraq is going to mean anything to whether or not "many thousands" die here?

You don't strike me as an overly stupid person Rick.. but seriously.. you actually think that the military action in Iraq is going to make one whit of difference either way on that very real possibility?

I realize that bad shit happens in bad circumstances. The Haditha killings included 11 women and children, shot at point blank range while they were in their homes.. and not provocating. You can't tell me that even the most battle hardened soldier can simply put a gun to the head of these kids and pull the trigger.

Doug said that the soldiers were simply "doing their job"? You have got to be kidding me. Killing women and children, much less men who were non-combatants is "doing their job"?

America has lost much moral leadership in the world, and Doug seems to think the answer is to kill more..

I sometimes wish this war would wage another 10 years so we can check back with you and Doug to see how it's going. I'd be interested to see if you think we just need to give it a little more time. I'd be curious to know your new strategy for "winning".

I do know what would solve the majority of the problems though.. bring back the draft.. and I'm quite serious about that.
