Among the hundreds of messages that my wife and I have received, two bore directly on this question. Both held me personally culpable, insisting that my public opposition to the war had provided aid and comfort to the enemy. Each said that my son's death came as a direct result of my antiwar writings.A remarkable op-ed from a Washington Post columnist whose son was killed in Iraq earlier this month. Those who respect our fallen soldiers and their families owes it to them to read it.
There is a fringe element in this nation, vile and violent. It is the authoritarian cult, relishing in the blood and death and misery of others. Not only do they think that a principled opposition to war is traitorous, they actually claim this father was responsible for his son's death. As I've always said.. these people are exactly the same as the Islamic "terrorists". Exactly the same.
