New Jersey Gov. John Corzine was recently involved in a car accident and was not wearing a seat belt. He was on his way to mediate the meeting between Imus and the Rutgers basketball team. A trooper was driving him at around 90 MPH when the accident occurred and he ended up in critical condition.
I just read a report at Sullivan's describing the effects of unrestrained accidents.
Now, I may have my moments of extreme stupidity (I've done 140 MPH in my G35), but there is never a moment that I don't have my seat belt on. If I get in a car and don't have a seat belt on, it feels like I'm naked.. not kidding.. that's exactly what it feels like. I often pick up my mail when I leave my house in my car.. it involves backing my car out of the garage and driving about 50 feet around to the front of my house.. I can barely stand to do that without a seat belt on.
The last point.. do NOT have anything heavy in the rear of your car unless it is secured and will not move in the event of a high speed impact. The reason is obvious.

One of the biggest causes of deaths is when a someone in the rear of the car doesn't wear a seat belt and hits the person in the front.
