Battlestar Galactica
John and I have been watching BSG on DVD and after a few so-so episodes in season 1, I have to say it's really very good. We watched up through the first 4 episodes of season 2 the other day and I liked them all a lot... and we all know how I'm hyper critical about tv/movies, etc., so that's saying a lot.
The great thing about missing it all the first time they were shown on the Sci-Fi Channel, of course, is that we can watch a month's worth of episodes at a time and not have commercials and such. It's really great.
I watched the original BSG and of course being a 12 year old nerd, I was amazed.. but just to show how stupid I can be sometimes.. I just now realized that Richard Hatch, Apollo from the original series, is Tom Zarek in the new BSG. I watched the episodes with this weird sense of deja vous, and, well.. there you go. That explains it.
It's really great for him.. because I see looking at his IMDB entry that he hasn't done a whole lot of work since the original BSG. Well, actually.. he's done enough to make a living I'm sure, appearing on "T.J. Hooker", "Dynasty", "The Love Boat", and "Babewatch" and so on.. but it's nice to see he's getting involved with a quality project that'll probably lead to more mainstream work for him.
So I guess I heard some rumblings about season 3.. but I don't want to know about it. I'll get to it when I get to it... but one thing that does annoy me.. is the new Baltar. Holy crap is that guy annoying... and it's a little disingenuous that his behavior isn't more suspect.
I looked at the list of summer movies, and there is not a single science fiction genre movie among them. I simply can't believe it. Hollywood is truly melting down and I don't get it. Spiderman 3? Ya.. okay.. probably be cool, but it's the third fucking movie.. and it's a comic movie. Man.. what the fuck?
You know how little known gems pop up to become phenomenons.. such as The Blair Witch Project, and so on.. If somebody were to do a deep and dark Sci-Fi thriller right now, without playing to the usual Hollywood stereotypes, they would make a mint.
