Anyway.. my picks from last month and the actual results;
1. Best Picture: "Babel," "The Departed," "Letters From Iwo Jima," "Little Miss Sunshine," "The Queen."When the academy skips a talented artist for 30 years, you can prety much bet the house that they'll win. This one was a no-brainer. However, I still insist that it's the weakest group of movies in the history of Hollywood. The Departed was a decent movie, but it seemed like 2 hours worth of build-up, and they didn't know how to end it.. and I don't want to spoil it, but let's just say.. it wasn't terribly inventive.
1 for 1.
2. Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio, "Blood Diamond"; Ryan Gosling, "Half Nelson"; Peter O'Toole, "Venus"; Will Smith, "The Pursuit of Happyness"; Forest Whitaker, "The Last King of Scotland."I wrote in my prediction last month;
Whenever there is a black actor that is actually a good actor, he wins.
And there you go. It was a final snub to Peter O'Toole. Judging by the way he looked, I wouldn't be surprised if he goes to visit Gorak soon.
2 for 2.
3. Actress: Penelope Cruz, "Volver"; Judi Dench, "Notes on a Scandal"; Helen Mirren, "The Queen"; Meryl Streep, "The Devil Wears Prada"; Kate Winslet, "Little Children."Doh! Oh well, it's not like anybody really gives a shit about the category... but I should have realized that a "serious" role like the Queen is always going to win. Hollywood does love dem some English people.
2 for 3.
4. Supporting Actor: Alan Arkin, "Little Miss Sunshine"; Jackie Earle Haley, "Little Children"; Djimon Hounsou, "Blood Diamond"; Eddie Murphy, "Dreamgirls"; Mark Wahlberg, "The Departed."Alright.. I see what I did wrong. Little Miss Sunshine couldn't be allowed to get shut-out, so this was a category that I should have known better. Alan Arkin did a good job, but the movie itself wasn't that good. By far, the acting was the best part of the movie.
2 for 4.
5. Supporting Actress: Adriana Barraza, "Babel"; Cate Blanchett, "Notes on a Scandal"; Abigail Breslin, "Little Miss Sunshine"; Jennifer Hudson, "Dreamgirls"; Rinko Kikuchi, "Babel."As I wrote in my prediction;
Good god.. who the fuck? Eenie.. meanie.. minee.. hey moe!
3 fo 5.
6. Directing: Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, "Babel"; Martin Scorsese, "The Departed"; Clint Eastwood, "Letters From Iwo Jima"; Stephen Frears, "The Queen"; Paul Greengrass, "United 93."I suppose it's appropriate Scorsese won. It was an easy pick.
4 for 6.
18. Documentary Feature: "Deliver Us From Evil," "An Inconvenient Truth," "Iraq in Fragments," "Jesus Camp," "My Country, My Country."I wished they had shown one of the whackier moments in Jebus Camp, just to rub the fundi's nose in it.
The thing I noticed.. is when Gore was speaking, some of that old wooden Gore from the 2000 election was back. If Gore would simply speak to a large tv/public audience the way he does in the movie, everyone would get behind him.
5 for 7. Not bad, eh?
Also in my prediction, I wrote;
I notice Mel "Fucking Jews!" Gibson was snubbed in the important categories... no doubt by the Dirty Fucking Jews that run Hollywood.The movie did get several nominations in the technical categories.. but it doesn't look like Gibson even showed up for the event. No doubt, he was concerned that the dirty fucking Jews and homos would beat him to death on sight.
