Lie to win

Interesting article at Reuters, looking at the ramifications of a Democratic Congress.

This part is interesting;

The GOP needs to focus on the concrete ways in which a Democratic victory would threaten our safety. Here's one possible ad: We see and hear a wiretapped conversation, with a terrorist revealing his worst plans to his associate - and, inadvertently, to government eavesdroppers, too.

Then, when he's about to spill the beans on when and where the next attack is going to come, the line should go dead, with a dial tone, with a machine voice saying "This wiretap terminated in the name of privacy rights by the Democratic U.S. Congress." The announcer can then say, "If the Democrats win, the National Security Agency will never be able to listen in as the terrorists are plotting to attack us."
Sounds reasonable? It's not. It's a complete lie.

There's not a single Democrat that would deny the "government" wiretapping terrorists. Not a single god damn one.

The key issue is whether the wiretapping is legal or not. Democrats do NOT support warrantless wiretapping, and in fact a federal judge recently ruled that the government's conduct is ILLEGAL.

"But Tom", you may say.. "Sometimes there's just not enough time to get a warrant before a terrorist strikes!!".. What the stupid fucking morons don't seem to understand (because it's a difficult concept I know), is that the FISA courts will grant warrants AFTER THE FACT. They can tap first, and then go back and get the warrant.

"But Tom", a moron might say.. "If the tap already occurred, what's the point of going and getting a retroactive warrant?!?". The stupid fucks don't understand the concept of "checks and balances" in our form of government. They just assume because some authority figure did something, it must be okay. Well, it's not - and it's completely un-American to circumvent checks and balances.

So.. that Republican ad... what is it? It's a bald faced un-American lie - yet they are allowed to run it as much as they want. There is no such thing as slander in politics apparently.

I have an idea for an ad; We see a pasty middle aged white guy wearing a $1000 Armani suit. The announcer says, "This is a Republican congressman." Show the congressman drooling, with some 10 year old kids in the background. The congressman wipes his sweaty brow and licks his lips. The announcer; "He's only interested in one thing.. raping your children. He doesn't care about anything other than destroying your children and your families. If the Republicans win, your kids will never be safe."

I think that's fair considering there's at least some shred of truth to my commercial versus theirs.
