As pro-Hezbollah rallies overwhelm parts of Baghdad, two of the most influential centrist columnists in America just essentially gave up on Iraq. Tom Friedman (TimesDelete) wants one last chance for an Iraqi national conference, then withdrawal; David Broder thinks it's time to cut our losses.Never mind that these "influential" columnists had the whole concept of the Iraq war wrong from the beginning, through the middle and now to the bitter end. Actually.. lets not "never mind" it. Why the fuck do all these people have jobs now? They are/were part in parcel to the largest American fuck-up since Vietnam.
Speaking of which, check out this quote from a Bush campaign speech.
"America's armed forces need better equipment, better training and better pay ... A generation shaped by Vietnam must remember the lessons of Vietnam: When America uses force in the world, the cause must be just, the goal must be clear, and the victory must be overwhelming ... I don't have enemies to fight. I have no stake in the bitter arguments of the last few years. I want to change the tone of Washington to one of civility and respect ... We're learning to protect the natural world around us. We will continue this progress, and we will not turn back ... to lead this nation to a responsibility era, that president himself must be responsible. So when I put my hand on the Bible, I will swear to ... uphold the laws of our land ... I will not attack a part of this country because I want to lead the whole of it ..."Bush didn't write the speech. He didn't understand or comprehend the speech. The limit of George Bush's intellect is merely reading the text off a piece of paper and hoping to god he doesn't fuck it up. He's really that stupid. But Tom, you say.. it can't be! Well, fuck me.. what is it with this preoccupation of people to continue to contradict those that are right all the time? After a while, and fucking things up over and over, the stupid people have no shred of credibility left - but hey.. lets just keep paying attention to them, and insist that the people that were actually smart enough to be RIGHT about it, are still wrong!
Well, fucking duh.. okay? Just fucking duh.
Now where do we find ourselves eh? The military is asking Congress to raise the age limit on recruiting again.. to 42! Just as I'm about to hit 40, the limit goes up - and the specter of a draft looms. Bet none of the pro-war "columnists" (Jonah fucking Goldberg, et. all) will enlist. All fucking cowards..
And guess what? Civil fucking war.. god damn. Two, count them two, top military Generals this week raised the possibility of a civil war in Iraq. Never mind that it's been raging for a while, but clearly we see that the administration is getting the American public's feet wet on the idea.
So what happens? The democrats stomp the republicans in November, the military starts to redeploy from Iraq, and the whole of Iraq turns into a blood bath of violence. It's likely to turn into a blood bath even if the military stays and tries to do something about it.
And this is "freedom" bitches. This is what America has created - and those same fucking idiots on the right wing are going to claim that the "cut and run" liberals ruined the Iraq war.
No.. we didn't, you stupid fucks. We didn't want any part of it to begin with, but once we were there, we wanted it done correctly. It wasn't. Now we want our troops home because all they are doing is killing and dying over an inevitable outcome.
This is what the American public has allowed to happen. They voted (well, not most of them but enough) for that god damn monkey, and now we really are responsible for the body count.
And people wonder why the Muslims are pissed off.. god damn.. fucking retards.

I think a lot of the peoples concerns about the democratic "solution" to Iraq is this preceived notion of "cut and run". It's not that we just want to pull all our troops out. What we want to do is actually have some type of process in place that will return our troops home.
The republican solution is leave them there untill people stop fighting. With no real agenda in place no real strategy on how to stop the fighting. Yet, the democratic approach is the one frowned upon by the american public.
So really it's the republican's spin of "cut and run" that has lowered the public's view of the democratic approach. It's unfortunate that so many american's are still listening to the right, even after time and time again they have proven that they have no real solution to the situation in iraq.
