A key signal for whether we "turn the corner" in American politics during this year's mid-terms is the Democratic primary in Connecticut.. The result will set the media's "conventional wisdom" for the fall election. If Lieberman looses, the CW will be "American voters are fed up with the failed Republican policies and war in Iraq. If a senior Democratic senator can loose his seat, it does not bode well for Republicans". If Lieberman wins, the CW will be "While American voters are distressed by the continued war in Iraq, they still believe that the Republicans are the best party to conduct that war and protect them."
Which will it be? I don't have a clue. But, I will say this.. if Lieberman looses to Lamont, the credit will go to the liberal blog-o-sphere, and not his opponent, Ned Lamont. There will be much screeching that left-wing extremists have taken over the Democratic party, and the senior Democrats will loose their minds in fear that they will be the next take-over target of Kos. Hillary Clinton will have a cow, because she's not in "most favored" status with the left bloggers right now.
It's a great opportunity to create a huge shift in American politics. Hopefully, if it works out to our favor, American politics will one day have a system where the politicians are watched like hawks, and bounced the hell out of Congress regularly. There's absolutely no reason to have somebody serve more than 2 terms. When a politician serves longer, it's only because they've become power greedy, because for those types of people, private sector life is far more lucrative. It should be anyway.
