Interestingly, Froomkin's attentiveness to the issue of what's true and what's false in the President's statements has earned him the reputation around the office of being an ideologue. Late last year Washington Post executive editor Len Downie spoke of his desire to "make sure people in the administration know that our news coverage by White House reporters is separate from what appears in Froomkin's column."The problem with capitalism is that the media is part of the system. They have financial issues, and because we all know that the primary motivating factor for human beings is money, truth becomes a secondary issue to them.
Even the most prestigious newspapers in the country are simply cowed like never before. Anything that Froomkin writes is easily verifiable as to it's veracity. Because he uses clear and straightforward language, the Post feels the need to "balance" that with, what? The opposite. And what is the opposite? Somebody who simply shills/spins/lies. That's really what it amounts to.
And in the case of the Post, they picked a 24 year old never-before-journalist, who plagiarized a great deal from other writers as a "balance" to a 20 year professional journalist. That is the thinking at the Washington Post today. That's the same paper that broke the Watergate scandal. What the hell has happened to them? One word; money.
But, again, people often get bogged down in the details when the issues are simply defining for political ideology. That is what the right-wing conservative movement is about. When you talk about what the platform is, corruption and lying are simply a result of what defines "conservative".
Liberals, on the other hand, while being defined by a number of platform positions is insanely committed to being honest and direct.
In the next 5 years, the conservatives will attempt to brand the Bush movement as an aberration to their platform. It's not. It is the epiphany of the core. It is exactly the monster that it will create every single time.
And I have no doubt that I will be explaining this to people for the next 50 years, if I live that long. They will never be able to connect the dots that says that the idea of conservatism and the Republican party is simple corruption of real values.
Anyway.. read what Alterman says to see how the media is still shilling for Bush.
