“This amendment is one of the most important things we can do — to send a message to the United States Supreme Court that you cannot usurp the power of Congress.” - Congressman Orrin HatchLet that soak in a bit. Feel it bounce around your head.
The flag burning amendment was defeated by one vote, so we don't have to worry about what would happen when thousands of people set flag bonefires just to make a point. Freedom of speech is freedom of speech, and if you don't support it, you are more fascist then American.
But, getting back to Hatch's statement.. see anything wrong with it? See anything completely un-American about that?
Post a comment if you know the answer to our little riddle.. for a gold star.

The purpose of having three seperate branches of the govermnet is so that they can balance eachother. No one branch of the government has more power than another. Hatch seems to think that the legislative branch should have or apparently does have more power than the judicial branch.
Well besides that, I feel there are far more "important things they could do" than worry about what people do with the american flag. I mean shit, gays want to get married too.
Steve.
