[In the Hamdan decision,] Justice Thomas refers to Justice Stevens' "unfamiliarity with the realities of warfare"; but Stevens served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945, during World War II. Thomas's official bio, by contrast, contains no experience of military service.

How interesting.. in an exceptionally important ruling, Thomas tries to swift boat Stevens.

I still feel like I'm living in a Matrix style alternate reality. Is is just me, or is it bizarre that the right wingers continually attack the patriotism and service of liberals, when the reality is that the vast majority of the conservatives hid from military service?

This meme of Republican "all-American stud, military commanders and kick ass take no prisoners real men" is a complete farce. They're all a bunch of effete cowards. They do know one thing - how to mass market to stupid Americans. They simply lie about reality, and attack the other sides background, and they convince people to go along with it.

That's why John Kerry's Vietnam service was such an issue in the last election. Bush never even went to Vietnam, and Cheney got 5 deferments - yet they solved the riddle of the Kerry war hero story by lying about his service and claiming he didn't deserve any commendations.

Now, you see the right wing lying justices, picked by these assholes, lying about the "liberal" justice's background. They have no shame at all.

WASHINGTON - Republican Tom Kean Jr.'s campaign plans a "Swift Boat"-style film accusing his Democratic rival of involvement in a New Jersey mob-connected kickback scheme despite public records and statements disputing that claim.

Sen. Bob Menendez has talked about how he courageously testified against Union City, N.J., Mayor William V. Musto in a 1982 federal trial that dealt with school construction, kickbacks and the Mob.

Musto was convicted and sentenced to seven years in prison. He died in February.
