The officers were responding to a robbery in progress call on the 600 block of Grandview where a Hispanic male wearing only a pair of shorts was said to have invaded a home. Upon arrival, officers found Romero on the front porch, in only his underwear, waving a knife, officials said in a news release.I'm sure the sister is very upset at her brother's death, but what the fuck is she thinking?
Officers said Romero came at them, fell and continued toward the officers on his knees. One officer fired the Taser gun at Romero, but one of the probes failed to connect. Romero then attempted to get on his feet and a second shot from the Taser gun was discharged, disabling Romero.
Romero was handcuffed while continuing to struggle with officers. He was placed on a backboard to be examined by paramedics at which time he stopped breathing, police said.
Romero later died at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.
Now, Romero's family is looking for answers.
"Its not over with. We're going to pursue it and we're going to find out exactly what happened. It's not right," said Celia Ayala, Romero's sister.
The police department identified the officers involved as Kara Gray, James Winkle and Brent Smith.
The guy comes at the cops with a knife, and they are quite within their rights to fill him full of lead and be done with it. Instead, they use a "non-lethal" taser to incipacitate him. Unfortunately he dies anyway, but what the fuck did she expect the officers to do?
The way some relatives of criminals act, it's as if the crime their family member committed is incidental to the consequenses. It seems the crime is taken for granted as a normal activity one participates in during the day.
Unbelievable..
** update **
Well, interesting.. yet another story today..
GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. - A woman in a wheelchair who swung knives and a hammer at relatives and police died after being shocked by a stun gun, officials said.Now.. a 56 year old woman in a wheel chair with a knife? I think it's not unreasonable to expect the police could disarm and subdue her without resorting to a taser.
Police tried to talk Emily Marie Delafield, 56, into dropping the weapons before they used the Taser to subdue her Monday, Police Chief Robert Musco said. Delafield lost consciousness after the electric jolt and later died at Orange Park Medical Center.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating and an autopsy will be conducted to determine a cause of death.

my concern is that police officers are not required to have any type of counseling. The dallas officer in question is going through several personal issues and i know that has to effect you at work, especially that job.
