I know there are hundreds of rumors out there about what is happening, I can only provide information on what the situation is today. There is always a chance that things will change but we must move forward with the information that we have available to us right now.I just talked with 2nd from top in company management for this contract, and she said "The people who were impacted in October are still on the payroll". Meaning, the company is still paying the employees that were impacted by budget cuts 2 months ago and have not yet found new positions in the VA account.
In the current distribution the following projects will be deferred and shut down efforts will take place:
PFSS, Fee Basis, ADT-R, VistA Imaging-R, Nursing-R, Vitals-R, Clinical Procedures-R
Pretty much every other project effort/funding area that we have will be taking reductions and of course some more than others.
Me - "In your opinion, is there any reason for me to start the panic?"
Her - "oh geez no.. "
It's hard for me not to get uptight because I have recent experience in being out of work for a year, and I didn't have a mortgage then. I've saved up enough money to pay my bills for about a year, but I don't want to go through all my savings once again.
Anyway.. I'm sure it's going to be okay. My employer is very focused on making sure everyone is taken care of.. but what is really weird is how Congress is messing with the VA's IT funding... in a time of war no less. Support the troops? Support the geeks that make sure the system works.
