Weekend Update

I slept quite a bit, which I guess is a good thing. I tend to not get enough during the week.

Anyway, I'm not going to post much in the way of Katrina news. Suffice it to say that it's horrible, deadly, and is as classic an example of American idiocy as you can find. There are lots of other places that have better summaries. Americablog is a good place to read.

I did meet a couple of people from New Orleans. They are staying at my friend John's dad's house. Their house is flooded. John is going to host a couple at his house as well. They are "friends of a friend who is related" blah blah.. They aren't psycho killers anyway - but white middle class, etc.

I don't consider myself a racist, but considering the piles of murdered bodies they are finding in the Superdome, I wouldn't likely take in any black people that I don't know. I guess that's racist. Oh well..

** update **

I stand corrected. Exchange "Superdome" with "Convention Center". That was a stream of consciousness post.

It's not so much racist as it is a strong sense of survival. I wouldn't take in ANYBODY I didn't know regardless of race. You gotta go with the averages though. If 80% in the Superdome were black and there were a bunch of murders you have to assume you wouldn't be safe ith *0% of them unless they actually caught the murderers. That ain't likely.
