SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said he would veto a bill to legalize same-sex marriage "out of respect for the will of the people," drawing heated criticism from gay rights supporters and cheers from conservative groups.It's so insane. He is contradicting the will of the people by not signing the legislation approved from elected legislators.
The bill, narrowly passed by lawmakers in the past week, would make California the first state to legalize same-sex marriage through its legislature. In Massachusetts, recognition of gay marriages came through a court ruling.
But Schwarzenegger said Wednesday the legislation would conflict with the intent of voters when they approved an initiative five years ago that prevents California from recognizing same-sex marriages performed in other states or countries.
"We cannot have a system where the people vote and the Legislature derails that vote," the governor's press secretary, Margita Thompson, said in a statement.
But these kinds of issues cannot be left up to the general American population anyway, because we all know the general American population are a bunch of fucked in the head idiots. Is that even a question? A majority of Americans are too fucking stupid to have a vote. Not to mention that we are NOT living in a democracy in the U.S. Everyone knows that, right? It's a Constitutional Republic.
If everyone in this country had a vote on every issue - we'd be fucked.
The direct comparison is inter-racial marriage. Again and again people should throw that in the Gropenators face. 70+% of the American public was opposed to laws legalizing marriage between blacks and whites when the Supreme Court struck down anti-miscegenation laws. Was that because Americans were concerned about "values" back in the 60's? Hell no.. it was because Americans were, as they are now, too fucking stupid to have a vote on the issue.
I know it's ultimately going to have to be decided by the Supreme Court, and likely it'll be Bush's Supreme court that does. I had thought that this time it would work out, but no.... and he's married to a fucking Kennedy for God's sake.
When presented with a historic moment and a chance to stand up.. that motherfucker chose to side with the hate mongers.
It's really not difficult to know why blacks are still pissed off about the racism of the past. It's hard to forgive heterosexual white people for being so stupid and hateful.
Do I hate my country? It's getting that way.. ya.. Canada is looking really nice right about now..
