American Idiot

Think I'm kidding when I say that the vast majority of American's are blithering idiots? I'm very seriously not kidding.

From Sully:

42 PERCENT: That's how many Americans believe that the earth and all its creatures have always been the same since they were created by God in Genesis. Fully "70 percent of white evangelical Protestants say that life has existed in its present form since the beginning of time." 63 percent of them are "very certain" that this is true. I must say that there are times when one is rendered speechless. No educated intelligent person could possibly look at the evidence of science and say such a thing. And yet we are supposed to have a reasoned debate with these people on the matter. How is that even possible?
He was referencing this report.

Interestingly, this report was released yesterday. Scientists have finished mapping the entire DNA of chimpanzees. What did they find?

Humans and chimps have evolved separately since splitting from a common ancestor about 6 million years ago, and their DNA remains highly similar — about 96 percent to almost 99 percent identical, depending on how the comparison is made.
That one simple paragraph takes every fundamental construct of the bible and flushes it right down the toilet. All of it.

I'm still confused how this happened? We all know this country was established by a bunch of men that denied the divinity of Christ. They were not Christians. They were not religious - in fact they were anti-religious. Yet now we find a large population of Americans that are so stupid in a very basic and fundamental way, that I am simply in awe.

I can tell you that I can get up right this second, walk about 25 feet, and talk to a person who is absolutely convinced that Adam and Eve are real, that evolution never happened, the human beings are exactly the same right now as they were when they were created 6000 years ago by God. You could put the man in a time machine, and dial back 2 million years to show him the state of mankind, and he would be convinced it was all a trick.

This is not an isolated point of view. When you drive down the street, realize most of the people around you are that way. Well, of course it depends on geography.

Is it any wonder that this country is headed in the completely wrong direction?
