Is there a genetic link between humor and political outlook? Is there just some birth defect that prevents right-wingers from being funny? In my apology yesterday, I sarcastically asserted there was such a connection, but now I think I may have been right at that. Perhaps people who are born with a natural disposition to see the humor in life, and to be able to laugh at themselves, may develop a sense of empathy and compassion that leads them to liberalism. The key to successful humor, after all, is to be able to see things from other people's perspectives - a liberal trait that conservatives deride variously as "relativism" or "objectively pro-terrorist". So conservatives may have a genetic makeup that makes them less able to appreciate what's funny, and consequently take themselves very seriously and see the world as a dour, threatening place, with all these other people having a good time and laughing - sometimes at them. This explains a lot, I think, and deserves further research.I think he's right. Just compare my blog to our favorite freeper. This is a good example from my blog. His blog is a non-stop hate fest, punctuated by videos of things getting blown up, followed by more hate directed at Muslims and gays....
I can't remember ever laughing (in a good way) at a post on a right-wing blog. I've only laughed at them for being absurd.
Somebody at Cornell aught to do a study on it, to find out if small penis size and low testosterone levels contribute to a lack of humor. I'm sure it's true.
** update **
World O' Crap gets a response from Roger L. Simon on their humorous critique of conservative bloggers, exerpts of which I posted below on my blog. This is what the wing-nut had to say.
Meanwhile, another example of Charles-bashing today can be found on the fire-breathing Salon...Yes, they are still there... under the "highly-sophisticated" blog title World O'Crap. The wannabe Mencken who blogs under that moniker attacks Little Green Footballs for linking a story from The Independent about a possible 100,000 trained terrorists now in Britain. Never mind that The Independent is one of England's leading liberal-left publications... someone who names his blog World O'Crap could be ignorant of such niceties... or that the article raises significant issues for Britain and for the West: the importance is to bash Charles. Yet this man knows Charles from Adam. He assumes Charles is conservative on all subjects because he is militant on the WoT. Nothing could be further from the truth. This is the kind of childish partyline thinking that makes bloggers like this blind to new ideas and has turned Salon, an Internet pioneer, into an old fashioned publication scarcely worth reading.Isn't it lovely the way the conservatives reinforce the stereotypes over and over?
How did Roger L. Simon respond to an awefully funny and satiritcal post at World O' Crap? He went into serious flame mode.
