Supreme Court nominee Roberts assisted on a gay rights case, and won, for the gays!
Now, some would say he was just being a good lawyer and was advocating for his client, except in this case, it was pro bono. He donated his time to take on the case.
Walter A. Smith, who was in charge of pro bono work at Hogan & Hartson from 1993 to 1997, and who worked extensively on the Romer case, said about a dozen lawyers at the firm assisted. He said he had little trouble recruiting Judge Roberts.The BSC's are upset to hear about this.
"It looked like a challenging, interesting, provocative, important case," said Mr. Smith, who is now the executive director of the D. C. Appleseed Center, a nonpartisan public interest legal group. "Everybody knew that, and I think he believed it was worth his time."
Rush "I'm addicted to Oxycontin" Limbaugh was flabbergasted;
Even so, reports of his involvement echoed on conservative talk shows Thursday, generating outrage and disbelief. "There's no question this is going to upset people on the right," Rush Limbaugh told his radio listeners. "There's no question the people on the right are going to say: 'Wait a minute. Wait a minute! The guy is doing pro bono work and helping gay activists?' "Imagine the decision on the landmark same-sex marriage ruling at the Supreme Court, and Judge Roberts is the swing vote in granting equal rights to gays.
I live for that day...

Now, let's see - you mentioned that you were going to "lay off the Christians" - so how do you feel about Roberts getting appointed to the Supreme Court? Just reminding you that Roberts is Catholic - that will put 4 Catholics on board. And then if the "Chief's" health takes him off, could have another Catholic!!! Wouldn't that be a little much considering how the Catholic Church disapproves of some of your issues. Curious how you feel about that??? PS I hope you don't change your blog and make us identify ourselves as I go "anonymous" in most things and never on email or the chat room so would have to quit writing to you! Of course, you probably wouldn't miss my comments.
I think that Roberts could turn out to be another Souter. All things considered, it could have been a lot worse (say another Scalia).
It really makes no differnece to me what particular religion a person belongs to. John Kennedy was Catholic as well. The problem is the doctrine, and lately the doctrine has been very hateful.
My number one issue is gay rights, as that's the one that affects me the most, and Roberts look like he might be on the right team on that issue. I guess if I was a heterosexual woman, my first priority would be Roe vs. Wade. On that front, I would be concerned.
And then there is the privacy issue.. and I really don't know where Roberts stands on that.
I'm not inclined to change the comments to require a login, but it is nice to know a "name" to associate to a comment, that way if somebody posts more than once, I can get a feel for that persons point of view. Even if it's a made up name, as long as it's consistent, that would be nice.. No need to register with blogger, just leave the name in the comment..
Thanks for your comment in any case.
