I'm leery of saying anything yet about a case that is still so murky.Murky? Maybe that's the problem with Sullivan. He hasn't read any news reports. The case is not murky. Rove leaked Plame's identity to Matt Cooper; Bush said 2 years ago that any leaker would be fired; McClellen said in the past that Rove had nothing to do with it, and in fact called the idea "rediculous"; and now the White House isn't talking at all. When asked about it this morning, the President acted like he didn't hear the question.
What is murky about that?
But it does seem to me that doing what Rove seems to have done would, in peace-time, be sleazy. In wartime, it shows a contempt for our national security - or a willingness to put petty partisan sniping ahead of national security. No Andy - in peace-time it is still a Federal crime, and it is also a life endangering issue for Plame and any contacts and sources Plame had ouside the United States.
From one of Cooper's emails..
"Spoke to Rove on double super secret background for about two mins before he went on vacation ..."Is it just me, or does that remind you of "double secret probation"?
I know I should just stop reading Sullivan, but there are times when the Haldol wears off and he's a very good writer. Lately it seems he's boosting the regime with Thorazine.
