The chairman [of the Senate Intelligence Committee], Senator Pat Roberts, Republican of Kansas, said on the CNN program "Late Edition".... "I must say from a common-sense standpoint, driving back and forth to work to the C.I.A. headquarters, I don't know if that really qualifies as being, you know, covert," Mr. Roberts said. - via NY TimesThat quote is making rounds in some blogs today. It really is quite amazing. If I were having a conversation with an average person in a bar, and they said that, I'd be pretty firmly convinced that they are mentally "challenged". Now we have that coming from the Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
What he is saying here is if you are a covert CIA employee, and you drive back and forth to work at Langley, you are not considered covert?
Tell me, is there even any right wingers who are not totally embarrassed by that most retarded of logic? I haven't heard anything that stupid in ages.
Need I repost the letter from the former CIA employees who are completely outraged that Plame's identity was leaked in the first place? Now we have Senators who are saying that it's okay.. her official status at CIA is irrelevant because she drove back and forth to work?
I understand that Karl Rove is very important to Republicans. I understand that if he goes to prison, it will reflect quite poorly on them. But now they are just making up the stupidest of excuses.
I still see right wing blogs attacking Joe Wilson, calling him a liar and such. I wish one of them would explain how that matters in the context of outing a covert CIA operative?
I still see the right wingers screaming about how Valerie Plame was responsible for sending Joe Wilson to Niger. Again, I wish one of them explains how that matters?
Is it just me, or does it scare the bejezus out of anyone else that the Chairman of the Senate Intelligence committee thinks it's okay to reveal the identity of a CIA NOC (of all things) because she was seen driving back and forth to work?
Then again, it's even more scary that there are people that are such political lemmings that they nod their head in agreement with it. I used to think there was a line that if crossed, would cause the right wing to say enough. There really is no line. There is no act that the Republican leadership could do that would cause them to say enough is enough.
That is the scariest thing of all.
