Quote of the Day

From Republican Senator Rick Santorum's ('08 presidential hopeful) new book:

In far too many families with young children, both parents are working, when, if they really took an honest look at the budget, they might confess that both of them really don’t need to, or at least may not need to work as much as they do… And for some parents, the purported need to provide things for their children simply provides a convenient rationalization for pursuing a gratifying career outside the home." (It Takes a Family, 94)
Mom shouldn't work, because unka Rick knows how much money they make, and since all of his friends make at least 6 figures, there's no reason for mom to have a job..

It's not like salaries have stagnated because of these corporatist greedy fuckers, has it? This is not fucking 1955 anymore, okay? So these "conservatives" need to learn that the world has changed - and if you want to be that blind to the reality of what young people are dealing with now, that's fine, but you sure as hell shouldn't be in a political position telling women to stay home.

If they CHOOSE to, and are fortunate enough to be able to do that - fine. But Santorum is just pushing more of that crazy religious bullshit he's famous for.

but wait.. there's more..

"Many women have told me, and surveys have shown, that they find it easier, more professionally gratifying, and certainly more socially affirming, to work outside the home than to give up their careers to take care of their children. Think about that for a moment. Here, we can thank the influence of radical feminism, one of the core philosophies of the village elders." (It Takes a Family, 95)
Jesus F'in Christ... women with children shouldn't have a gratifying career? What a stupid fuck... God forbid a woman wants to use her talent or achieve her professional potential..

and more...

"The notion that college education is a cost-effective way to help poor, low-skill, unmarried mothers with high school diplomas or GEDs move up the economic ladder is just wrong." (It Takes a Family, 138)
Truth be told, there is no difference between the Islamic fundamentalists and the Christian fundamentalists - some of whom are members of the Senate and Congress.

You know, the more I think about it, the weirder the current culture in the United States is. It's so schizophrenic.

The natural order of things is a continued liberalization - which had been underway since the civil war. But now there is such a large body of religious freaks that are completely out of touch with reality. They've gained considerable political power, and somehow influenced a bunch of average Americans to turn against liberals using, primarily, jealousy.

Everywhere else I've been in the world, with the exception of Mexico, is far more liberal than the United States. I'm speaking primarily of Western Europe and Canada.

The details are really what is stunning. Example; in the subways of Toronto, they have really beautiful poetry printed inside every car. The train in Dallas wouldn't have any such thing, because if, by chance, Bubba can in fact read, he's sure as hell not going to have any interest, nor any clue as to the meaning of a poem.

But - there is a church on every single corner in Dallas so Bubba can go and be told what he needs to believe. In Toronto, I saw maybe 5 total churches - in a city of 5 million. I'm sure there are more, but the point is, there is no religious iconography anywhere in the city except at the occasional church. Clearly the religious have next to zero influence in Canadian culture or politics.

If you've traveled western Europe, or large Canadian cities, you know what I'm talking about. The difference is night and day - and I'm back in the land of the kooky people - making shit up in order to justify their hatred and jealousy of everyone who is not as miserable as them.

Would I move to Toronto? Bet your ass. If I could get a job paying as much, and if they relocated the city to a warmer climate, I'm soooo there. Neither of those are likely to happen - but I can dream, right?

I'm just getting really tired of these ignorant redneck pig fuckers.. I mean, think about it. It was just 1998 when 3 white men slit the throat of a man, chained him to the back of a truck, and dragged him to his death - simply for being black. That happened 275 miles away from where I live.
