It worked for John @ Americablog, and when I did it, I got one but not the other (I'll explain after you take the test). I had my friend John sit down just a couple minutes ago and had him do the test with me watching, and made him say his answer out loud before concluding - and I swear to God that it was exactly as my friend said.

I've often been in the "2%" exception in my life, but I'm not sure what it means this time.

It seems most people said red hammer, with blue hammer in second, at least from the result I saw posted at americablog.
I really have no idea what it means, but I think a hammer comes to mind because after being focused on something completely unrelated, the first tool that comes to mind is the one that's most common.
As for the color, I really don't know. Apparently red pops into most people's heads first.
