Misc News

Lance Armgstrong is leading the Tour De France yet again. The man has to be considered one of the greatest athletes of all time. It's a long way to go, but I'm really hoping he wins.

As he crossed the finish line, he showed no visible signs of fatigue. By contrast, other riders crossed the line heads bowed, slack-mouthed and gasping heavily for breath.
Angelina Jolie is adopting another baby. I don't imagine Jolie and Brad Pitt can be in a relationship for very long. You just never see two perfect people able to pull that off. Still, I'll bet their having a blast while it lasts. I wonder what the BSC's would think of a single "career" woman adopting an AIDS orphan baby from Africa. Bet they hate it.

Angelina Jolie, who has been romantically linked with her "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" co-star Brad Pitt, is adopting an orphaned Ethiopian baby girl.

Jolie visited the Horn of Africa nation last week to file her adoption request, accompanied by Pitt and her 3-year-old son, Maddox, whom she adopted in Cambodia, an official said Wednesday.
Looks like London will be hosting the 2012 Olympics. I've never been to an Olympics, but that one would be interesting to attend. I really like London a lot. How nice the evil French lost out.

After Moscow, New York and Madrid were eliminated in the first three rounds, London overcame its cross-Channel opponent 54-50 on the fourth ballot of the International Olympic Committee vote — capping the most glamorous and hotly contested bid race in Olympic history.
It seems Roger Ebert didn't like War of the Worlds. What a total bummer. I was hoping it would rock - but I tend to agree with Ebert, so maybe I should see Batman and wait for War on DVD.

All of this is just a way of leading up to the gut reaction I had all through the film: I do not like the tripods. I do not like the way they look, the way they are employed, the way they attack, the way they are vulnerable or the reasons they are here. A planet that harbors intelligent and subtle ideas for science fiction movies is invaded in this film by an ungainly Erector set.
I've rated 843 movies at netflix.... geez..

Less than 2 weeks until Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Yes - Johnny Depp & Tim Burton. It doesn't get any better than that.

** update **

WASHINGTON - Retired Vice Adm. James "What?" Stockdale, a former prisoner of war and Ross Perot’s running mate in 1992, has died, the Navy announced Tuesday. He was 81.

The Navy did not provide a cause of death but said he was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
Of course he was..
