You're not in the Army now?

Even after reducing its recruiting target for May, the Army missed it by about 25 percent, Army officials said on Tuesday. The shortfall would have been even bigger had the Army stuck to its original goal for the month.

On Friday, the Army is expected to announce that it met only 75 percent of its recruiting goal for May, the fourth consecutive monthly shortfall in the number of new recruits sent to basic training. Just over 5,000 new recruits entered boot camp in May.
Two issues from the Times story:

First, you shouldn't lower expectations just because you know you can't reach them. Using that philosophy, the Army should just set the next month's recruiting goal to 4,500, then claim a complete success when they exceed it.

Second, I'll again call for pro-war types to sign up. Recruiters should not be targeting malls in poor neighborhoods. They should be targeting Sunday morning services. I'm serious. Get the recruiters in there, and let them pitch the Army to the congregation.

Then go get the Bush twins.. See if you can pry the martinis out of their hands and send them off to boot camp.

Then go get Charles Johnson (little green footballs) and ship his ass off. Then go get Jonah Goldberg. I'm sure he'll look fabulous in fatigues. Then go get all registered users of the Free Republic.

You still reading this Oxen? Signed up yet? I thought not.. Coward....
